Onion reaches Rs 100 / kg, feared to be more expensive
KARACHI: Onion prices have risen to
Rs 100 per kg in Karachi and major cities including Karachi due to wrong
policies of the concerned authorities and the Ministry of Commerce. Export is
underway and onion markets are being sold in Iran and Iran to meet local
demand.
Onion traders say export of
Pakistani onion on one side is ongoing. On the other hand, the quarantine
department has stopped issuing onion import permits from Iran and Afghanistan,
leading to an additional Rs 20k in onion prices. The onion has been increased
and the onion is being sold at Rs 90 to Rs 100 per kg.
Due to wrong policies of the quarantine authorities and the Ministry of Commerce, onion prices have been causing crisis across the country and onions are being sold at monetary price.
